Engine started fine, ran it for about a mile upstream 1/4 throttle and engine shut off and it was steaming. Thought it was going to catch fire! It was very hot. I noticed the circuit breaker was tripped. I reset it. Engine would not start...sounded very weird on crank. Brand new to boats and motors. Any help would be marvelous.

It would be helpful to know which 1987 motor you have. Generally, if you have a motor that will not work after overheating, check the compression. If it's in the neighborhood of 120LBS across all cylinders, then the motor has probably not had any mechanical damage and you can proceed to check out the ignition and fuel system. If not, you'll have to at a minimum, pull the head to see the extent of the damage.

Sorry... The tag reads: US Marine, Mod:357y7b Ser: 1025 Operating Range: 4500 to 5500 35hp at 5000 ISO STD Power 24.7 kw at 5000

Do you know a good place to find repair manual and parts for this engine?
Thanks

I've found some manuals on E-bay. Original manufacturer manuals are the best, followed by Clymer, then SELOC.
