Hi everyone. Please let me know what u think. I just replaced the head gasket on my '88 Force 50hp and mistakenly torqued the new head bolts to around 40 ft/lbs. The specs call for about 22 ft/lbs. What kind of issues can this cause?

Could distort the head at the bolt locations, also may pull at the thread bosses.
and of course could strip threads. I'd be inclined to redo it and check those things at that time.

Well, i checked comp cold and was good at 120 top and bottom. Ran it on muffs and water came out between gaskets almost immediately:mad:. Will have to remove and ck for damage. Will be using a different torque wrench next time. Lesson learned...hopefully
