I came into a 1988 Bayliner Capri with a 1988 Force 125 Motor on it. The control needed to be replaced as well as 1 cable. I took the cables off the motor (still attached to the control) to the marina to order replacement control and cable. I purchased a Teleflex SL3 control module (sidemounted) http://www.teleflexmorse-eu.com/library/instructionmanuals/SL-3.pdf
I hooked up the cables to the engine but am having trouble hooking it up to the control module. I have attached pictures showing different positions and need help figuring out what is reverse, neutral, and forward and what is open throttle and closed throttle. This is my first boat and all help is needed.
Thanks Matt

Pictures below are what I am working with.

You sure you have the right shifter??Lot's of wrong shifters get sold to a US Marine/Force.
You should unhook the cables at the motor. Then hook them up on the control first..
Then figure out the shift and throttle at the motor.Make the first connection in neutral. The bottom connection(see pic1)is throttle,it should have a bit of tension when installed.Top is shift,it should be set no tension.Make sure the safety switch is in neutral.J

Re: 1988 Force 125 Cable & Control Replacement Help

Jerry,
how can I verify the correct shifter? This is the shifter I purchased http://www.iboats.com/Single-Side-Mount-Standard-Teleflex-Marine/dm/*******.132231266--**********.171875157--view_id.192533, its getting dark out and I will be able to try again tomorrow. It seemed that the distance on the control from forward to neutral to reverse was too long, I couldn't get from forward all the way to reverse because the engine position had travelled all the way. The same thing was happening with the throttle. Help Thanks!

Contact Teleflex.610-495-7011
They will confirm if it's the right one. They will also give any technical help on installing.
When you put in the cables and shift the one that moves first is the shifter.J
