first time out after having a mechanic check it out and replace a blown rectifier for $230 and took forever to start and when it did i had to start it pulled out in neutral and forward then had to shift into gear very fast or it would die. this method worked most of the time but sometimes would stay on. then after wakeboarding for about an hour let sit in idle for about 15min then alarm went off but as soon as we got going back alarm would go off. are these problems due to bad impeller and either loose throttle cable and or idle wich mechanic had said was too high and turned down?

How high is the idle now? It should be 800-900 when the engine is in forward gear.

Impeller could be bad, or the thermostat is sticking.
If you don't know when they were last replaced, replace them.

And welcome to iboats.

I agree with Roscoe. If you don't know when your water pump impeller was replaced, replace it, your thermostat and your fuel pump diaphram as all three deteriorate with time. Keep a record of when you replace them and replace the impeller at least every three years to be safe.
