I cannot move the steering wheel on my 50 force.
I disconnected the cable and the wheel moved freely but the engine itself would not budge. I had just put it in the water after a winter storage.
Any ideas on how to fix. I thank you for your help in advance.

Re: steering problem 50 force

Welcome to iboats lance4.

Wow, can't believe no one has answered this yet.

The large swivel the allows the motor to turn is called the kingpin.
It needs to be greased periodically.

Chances are, the grease already in there has hardened.

You will need to do a combination of the following to free it up.

use pbblaster, aerokroil, liquidwrench, etc, to soften the hard grease.
apply more grease thru the grease zerk fitting.
use moderate heat to soften and free up the hard grease.
use force to get it to move.

Long term, you need to force the hardened grease out, replace with new grease, and grease it once or twice a year.

Don't know if you've done it.. But double check to see if there is something binding on the motor. Block of wood, rock?
