Picked up a Force 120 HP. Guy told me that it is a 1996, but I know it is between 1990-1994. Here is the serial: OE017225

Any idea exactly what year it is by chance?

Thanks Much!

Its gonna be a 1990 or 1991

If you could post photos of the ignition system and the fuel pump, I could narrow it down for you.

Square or "8" shaped fuel pump?

Blue coils with cd modules?
Or a switchbox?

Switchbox with terminal screws or with bullet plug connectors?

Re: Force 120 hp Year Question?

OK, my initial "guess" was wrong, I was looking at the wrong serial number chart.

Based on the ignition ,which has a switchbox with terminal connections (this is a good thing), it is somewhere between a 1991D model and a 1992C model.

You also have the older 2 stage fuel pump, which was used through the 1992C model.

The starter has a 1992 manufacture date on it, but we don't know if that is original.

You should be able to get any parts you need with this information.

But I would be pretty certain that the motor is a 1992A , 1992B, or a 1992C

Good luck, happy boating.

Thanks for the effort in answering this question! I like learning new tricks.

I am amazed how clean (looks wise) it is for a 92.. Have not dug into it yet to see how nice it truly is..

One more question? Is it common for the lower unit to look not fully painted when it gets up to where it meets the upper drive shaft area?

Well compression check is not good:

#1 120psi

#2 20psi

#3 120psi

#4 25psi

The motor is so cosmetically nice looking that I feel I should perhaps see if it just may need rings. I don't think I can blame carbon build up or anything like that for those low numbers, right?

If it has not been run in a while it may just have stuck rings , Pull the plugs , spray wd40 in each cylinder , rotate by hand a few turns , repeat , put plugs in and let it sit for 2 days , Do it one last time and then recheck comp readings.

25# ain't from setting.Remove the head and see if the gasket is blown.
That motor is an easy rebuild.
Figure out what happened, fix that and then rebuild and enjoy.J
