Remove the four bolts that hold the lower unit on. Then put the engine in reverse and pull down on the lower unit. This should give you enough room to reach in with a screwdriver or allen wrench (whichever the shift rod screw is) and remove the screw holding together the upper and lower shift rods.
The water pump will be held to the lower unit case with four bolts (possibly only three, depending upon year).
Slide up the pump and impeller off the drive shaft and do not lose the drive pin.
Replacement is simply the reverse. You must spin the impeller or pump to get it in, since it is offset in the pump housing and slightly larger. Be sure you get the vanes bent in the correct direction.
