3.5hp Chrysler model 301 oil/fuel mixture?

I recently acquired an old model 301 Chrysler and got it running and sometimes it will run great but even then its only for a short period of time. I let it sit and I'm back where I started. I totally cleaned the carb out. I'm thinking it's the fuel mixture which is currently slightly richer than 40:1. Please tell me what you can. I would also like to know which spark plug to use and the year of the engine. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Back in the early 70's I used to work for Chrysler in Hartford Wis in the Engineering Dept. We tank run 3.5 hp engines with out oil to see what would happen. After 100 hrs nothing bad happened. So use a BIA TCW3 oil and mix it at 50 to 1.

100hrs with no oil? shouldnt that mess up the motor?
