when i sink the outboard into a garbage can to flush the motor after saltwater use, (the next day, so it had 24 hours to cool off(, i takes about 30 seconds in idle to spit out exhaust with spray out the two vertical pencil holes. the water spray is not that heavy and it turnes extremly hot after about 2 minutes of running...cold water is being cycled through garbage can through hose. so my question is, do i need new impeller or waterpump? how much should i expect a marine motor place to charge for? help. thanks

The first thing I would do would be to follow the directions in this link:http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=210027. Next, I would see exactly how much water was coming out of the tell. A little more info is needed on your motor such as year and model number, but a waterpump/impeller change is pretty straightforward and easy to accomplish yourself for about $80 in parts.

Yes, replace the thermostat also. $80-$140, depending where.
