Re: Force Head Bolts

I imagine stainless would be ideal. If you have an original, take it to any auto parts store and get a match. If not you need to know the thread and size. Are you replacing the head gasket? Make sure you know the torque and torque order, very important with the head.

Stainless is NOT OK; it has only half the tensile strength of grade 8 steel bolts.

The bolts are standard sized grade 8--either 5/16 X 18 or 3/8 X 16 in whatever length. They can be identified by six hash marks on the head. Try a national company called Fastenal. Or, try your local auto speed shop. And if you have a choice, try not to buy bolts made in China. They seem to have problems making good steel.
