First hello everyone, I just picked up a running 1972 70 hp chrysler for almost nothing now that I have the fuel pump fixed and the carbs cleaned it runs great on the stand.
BUT it doesnt charge the battery " I know buy a manual" well I really want to take the boat out this weekend so if someone could help, here are my questions how do you test the stator it just has 2 wires going to the regulator also where does the purple wire go on the regulator it's just loose and how do you test the regulator.

Sorry for the poor spelling Im in a hurry

Purple wire is for a factory Tachometer. If you dont have a tach the wire should just be hanging without being connected Not sure if that motor has a regulator on it or not . Probably just a rectifier. A good test is to hook a volt meter to the battery when running it and see if voltage increases to over 13 volts when motor is running and then drops down to under 13 volts when you shut the motor off.
