force serial number decoding

Hello fellow Boaters,

I'm new to the boating scene but am finding it great fun, and a little expensive.

So I am wondering if anyone can help me out. I have the serial number from my motor, (OE088968) can any one tell me the year and model number and any other info from this number.

I would like to do some of my own repairs.

I remember finding a list that showed the year and manufacture date, but it was from the model number, not serial.
The info was on a tag inside the engine cover.

It shows the serial number as well.... I had checked by model number, so I stand to correct myself!

OE088968 is a 1994 model

Can you tell me how to decode that number. Is there other places I should look for numbers to verify my motor? I got that number on the mount next to the tilt motor.
I looked on the website that racer-x gave me (thanks) and I did not find any numbers starting with OE. I will recheck that number on my boat and look for others.

Model and serial number appeared only on the tag you mentioned.

It may also be on small white paper labels that were stuck on some parts (like the starter) at the factory.

The serial numbers starting with OE...... were used by Mercury after they bought Force from US Marine.

The serial number contained no info other than to id the motor. They used consecutive numbers for all the motors produced during the year. The next year, they started where they left off the previous year.

Any model info or features were coded into the model number.


1992-1994 OE000001-OE093699 (sorry, I don't have the break down with right now)
1995 oe093700-oe138599
1996 oe138600-oe202999
1997 oe203000-oe287999
1998 oe288000-oe344999
1999 oe345000-oe369299

mine is OEO46335
should be 1992,1993, or 1994 ?
