1988 force outboard 85hp serial# or vin# replacement

hello everyone.im having a problem to register my boat i need a vin# or serial# off the motor in order for me to register the boat. in ri you must register hull and then the trailer and also the motor (only outboards). but the problem is that my tag on the side of the mounting unit is so faded out that the numbers cant been read is there anywere else on the motor that might have the vin# or serial# on it or is there anyone out there with a salveged motor that i can read off those vin# is somebody can help me out all i need is a # tag off a salveged motor will do to but it must be off a 1988 85 hp force.thanks

The number is only on the id tag located on the transom mount.

Engrave a new number into the motor. Any unique number should work.

Your house address, plus your initials, plus the last 4 digits of your drivers license will do fine.

Those numbers are usually stamped into the plate. But sometimes the stamp is light and difficult to read. Try setting a piece of paper over it then rub with the side of a pencil-- You may get a useable number.
