Force L-Drive with primer bulb

I bought a 1990 Force L-Drive 90 hp with a primer bulb in the fuel line. In the Mercury service manual it says not to use a primer bulb, but rather a special fuel line. Should I jettison the primer bulb and spring for a special fuel line? Also, recently used up almost all the gas, and I think the idle jets in the carbs got dirt in them because it will not idle now. Any ideas? The carbs were rebuilt two years ago.

Fuel evaporates during the week, many have installed primer pumps to aid in starting their boat.

You are probably correct in assuming that dirt is in the carbs from the low fuel level and in need of cleaning.

Also install a water seperating fuel filter before the primer to keep any water (and dirt) out of the carbs.

The L-Drive is a unique creature, take good care of it, lube, lube, lube the mid grease fitting regular, do NOT over pressure it, 2 S L O W pumps are enough.
