Ok, I'm following the instructions from my SELOC repair manual on removing the shif shaft oil seal. It says to pry it out with a screw driver. Do they mean just to pry out the rubber seal or does the metal ring around it also come out? I've started prying out the ruber seal, but it is just breaking apart leaving small pieces of rubber attached to the metal ring around it.

Here is another picture of what I'm talking about. As you can see the rubber seal part is coming out but only in small flakes. Does the entire ring around it get tapped out?

Thread an appropriate sized lag bolt into it then pull. The metal shell will come out with the rubber attached.

Just be sure that the lag bolt will pass the clearance hole in the gearcase body.
