I'v a 1979 chrysler 115hp that stopped me in the middle of the lake yesterday HOT. Could someone give me some info on diagnosis, repair tips, possible extent of damages, part numbers, etc. I'm fairly mechanical and could probably fix myself but new to boats. Any help and info would be great. Thanks

Re: chrysler cooling problem

No. 1 Maintenance item is the lower unit oil
N0. 2 is the impeller.

Did you change or check the impleller? If it got hot and you shut it down you may be alright. If it got hot and quit well there are any number of things that could be wrong.

When the motor gets hot the pistons expand and sieze in the cylinders due to lack of lubrication due to heat. This can man among other things-
Scored cylinder walls or cracked walls
Broken pistons
Broket rings
Broken head gasket.

Sorry to be so glum.

>>>>>>>>>WELCOME to iBOATS!!!<<<<<<<<<<
