Chrysler 140 Cooling Problem

I have a Chrysler 140 in the shop because it is over heating. The mechanic has replaced the water pump. The problem persists. He ran solvent through the ports but this did not help. He says there is only 2 to 3 pounds of water pressure at 2500 rpms and should be around 15. There is not significant water pressure at low rpm to cool the engine. He is suggesting a larger housing for a heavy-duty pump. Any ideas for a housing that will interchange on this engine? Or any other possible solutions to this problem? Thanks!

Re: Chrysler 140 Cooling Problem

Check the grommet under the powerhead to verify a good seal. Remove Tstat and flush the motor through the tstat or using the water tube with a hose. If there is a blockage you might have to take off the exhaust gaskets and see if there is anything there blocking the water. The problem with this is the bolts are probably corroded and getting them all off without breaking them is tough. Did an impeller disintigrate in there? If so parts of that impeller may be causing a blockage. I doubt you are going to find a water pump that allows higher water pressure flow.
