I have two older Chrysler outboards one is a 1979 45 Hp and the other is a 1970 70 hp. The 45 hp seems to put a good amount of water out the back of the motor. The 70 hp does a good job at low or mid range rpms but at higher speeds it seems to just spit. Over last winter I had the 70 hp apart to to rebuid the powerhead and they do not make a gasket for the lower exhaust. My local parts guy told me to use RTV sealant instead. I replaced the impeller and the by-pass vcalve and the thermostat when I rebuilt the powerhead. I removed the cowling after running at wot for about five minutes and it does not seem to be hot on the top of the motor or the head or the exhaust. Is it possible that the water is getting sucked out of the exhaust somehow?

If your 70 is like my 55(1970), at cruising speeds most of the exhaust water and gases are exiting engine through the motor leg. So, from what you say, IMHO you don't have a problem.
