chrysler 50hp is it long or shot shaft

Hi all as u can see im new to boating i have a 50hp chrysler o/board how do u tell if its long or short shaft (2) can u put a short shaft 5 hp on as ur spare motor sorry for the dumb questions

Measure from the clamp that fits over the transom to the cav. (antiventilation) plate. A shortshaft is approx. 15". A long shaft is 20". You can put a shortshaft 5hp. on your boat if it has a short transom.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
