The weather has been good, so I tried starting my boat today. With a freshly charged battery, my starter motor wouldn't do anything. No clicks, or sound of any sort...just dead. Has the winter killed my solenoid? starter?...Please help.

Re: Force 85 Bad Solenoid?

Hi, Chalkboy. This is not uncommon for a boat (or car for that matter), that has sat for a while in humid conditions, to develope a layer of corrosion on the terminals.
This forms around the lead terminals of the battery first usually. A battery terminal/post cleaner will fix it right up. But, yes, also the soleniod terminals can do this,as can any of the connections in the circuit. You can jump the large terminals with a heavy screwdriver or wrench (watch out for sparks). If the starter takes off, the solendiod or ignition switch is bad. If you can start it by jumping the small terminalson the soleniod, the switch is where to look.
But Battery posts first.
