Released (2).jpg Reversing the engine doesn't stop kicking up. Saw this 180 switch that says "RELEASE" and "LOCK " When in release position this is what it looks like under the motor.

When Locked it looks like this.

Locked.jpg

My question is, what is the proper way to set the motor to lock when shifted into Reverse? Does it stay in the locked position all the time so when reversed it stays locked down preventing kick up?

Should I look further down the lower rod for further info and correct installation by previous owner?

You have power trim.
A few more pics of the area might help?

I do believe there is no lock if there is T@T installed.

The motor might have had a lock then someone has added the T@T.
That install probably removed the parts that lock the motor down.

You have 2 shock absorber looking things.
One is a tilt ram for the T@T system.
The other is a shock absorber.
If the shock absorber is bad it will allow the motor to lift when in reverse.

Find a parts diagram for your motor without power trim.
Then look at the "motor leg" parts diagram.
It will show the old parts.
