After 3 years of on off slaving I finally got my big 115 hp Chrysler fitted, a minor question for the brains trust, how critical is cav plate to keel alignment?

VERY important.
Just won't perform right.
1" either way is ok. and better off deeper in the water than out.

A small jack holding a piece of wood up against the bottom of the boat.
Have the wood sticking out and have the motor as straight up and down as possible.

Its sitting about one inch above the keel, its easy to fix just involves pulling the motor off and chopping an inch of the inside of the transom. I converted from sterndrive I over engineered the transom on both sides so instead of being 32 mm thick its 60 mm thick I cut a recess into the inner top edge so the screw clamps would clear I just didnt go down quiet far enough
