Hi all,

I have a '65 Chrysler 20 HP tiller drive outboard motor for a Jon boat. Hasn't been run in a while but fired right up a couple years ago when I was trying to start messing with it. Haven't had time since really. The issue with this motor is after running it for a while and turning it off, you have to wait for it to cool down for it to fire again. I've heard coils might be the issue here and if they are, would good coils from any motor work or would I need to find some specific to this motor? Also, any other ideas of what the issue might be are welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

As it look like a temperature issue I would suggest you to look at the coils and the condensers.
They will get old and dry out the insulation.

Run the engine until it is warm, turn it off and try to restart it.
Check for spark at plugs, maybe one of them do not fire. Then you know which is not firing.

Check out Ebay for coils and condensers there are out there or buy new one.

Mastertech and other websites has aftermarket coils and condensers.
Coil part# 185-2370 and condensers part# 18-5241.
