Chrysler 4 cylinder: Can I use an AGM battery?

Looks like my battery has given up the ghost, won't hold a charge. Marine AGM batteries are on sale, but not sure if they are prone to being overcharged on my old Chrysler 105HP. It has the original regulator with the fins.

Anyone know if this will work ok or am I likely to fry it by charging it at too high a voltage?

AGM batteries require a more sophisticated charging system than the one on your motor. AGM batteries require a charging system that has the capability to monitor and adjust the voltage. Probably not a good idea to use an AGM battery on your set up. Standard lead/acid battery would be safest to use.

Thanks for asking this question and for answering it as I need to replace the battery for our 75hp Chrysler this year, and I was considering going with an AGM battery myself.

Good info on using a standard battery with the older charging systems.:encouragement:

No AGM deep cycle as a starting and running battery.
That can damage the Chrysler/ Force charging system.
The AGM designed for the marine starting use should be ok.
Your best bet is contact the manufacturer.

Google can help.
