45 HP Chrysler Coils

Hey all! I've been working on getting a '70s chrysler 45 hp back to life. Model number 454H? The last number on the plate is gone. Serial is I believe 3204.

The control switch was wired incorrectly and both coils appear to have started on fire/melted. I tested residence through both and the spark plug circuit appears to be damaged according to the tests. Based on this, does anyone know the part number for a replacement set of coils? I'm struggling to find an oem replacement and figured ebay my best bet.

Otherwise is there a different set that can be used by Sierra or other companies?

Thanks for the help! I'll try to upload pictures but it doesn't seem to be working from my mobile.

What kind of ignition system does it have?
Battery, magneto or MagnaPower CD system.

Battery and MagnaPower CD is still available at Maxrules and other webshops.
Magneto N/A, but Ebay and Franz Marine are the source for this typ.

You need five post to upload pics.

Thanks Nordin - It is a Magneto system. The problem is someone had the key wired like a battery ignition I believe. By reading the forum here I believe to have the key wired up correctly and no power runs direct to the points/coils from the battery system now.

There are many different coils available on Ebay for Chrysler and I'm just not sure which ones will work or not work. I'm trying to find out if there are multiple part numbers that I can look for or which direction I need to go to narrow my search. Thanks!

I did some more searching and found F12057 as a part number, which lead me to sierra part number 18 - 5190. Does this seem right? What kind of spark plug wires do I need for these coils?

Coils for Chrysler 35, 45 and 55Hp will fit.
From 1965 until 1975 for 35Hp, from 1965 until 1984 for 45Hp and from 1968 until 1976 for 55Hp.
In 1976 there was an "new" 35Hp that was designed from the 25-30Hp familiy , this coils will not fit.
In 1976 Chrysler intruduced a dual carb 55Hp engine and this coils will also not fit your engine.

F12057 is the right part number they are N/A but as you mention Sierra has the 18-5190.

Regular copper high tension wires will fit, you just thread the wire in to the coil.

Thanks - We've been calling around to a few marine shops around us and getting in contact with junkyards trying to track them down. I''m hoping the coil replacement fixes our spark issue and gets us back in the right direction on getting this back on the water!

Here's the ID Tag on the motor - as you can see the last number is rusted/broken off. Any idea how to age this based on what we see? I was thinking 1970-1975 from what I've gathered.

As you says the model number 454H? is from 1970-1975.
If you can post pics of the top cowl I can give you a better ide of age.

1970 had black color at the letters CHRYSLER with white background and blue at the Hp numbers with black background, 1971-73 had black color background with red at Hp number, crome letters with black background.
1973-75 had lighter red background and crome at letters with black background. I THINK.

Pics please and I will give you a better ide.

This is the best I have. It's a little rough as it has been sitting in a grove for some time.

That is a 1973-75 year model.
I feel it is more likely 1974-75 then a 1973.

The tilt handle at the back of the cowl is integrated in the cowl.
I think the 1973 had a handle that was like a shelf.
I am not 100% sure about that, BUT it is not older then 1973.
