overheat alarm

Is there a way to test the overheat alarm to make sure it works. I see a buzzer up in the dash but sure would like to know if it works. Its a 86 force 85 and thanks for any and all help

Turn key to on position but don't start. Hit the orange overheat sensor with a hair dryer.

I think if you ground the sending wire to the block it should set off the buzzer under the dash. You'll need to trace the wire as the one on my 75hp Chrysler ( Located at the top of the powerhead just above the spark plugs ) is probably not in the same spot as your Force.

:facepalm: SkiDad's way is better as it tests the sending unit as well.

Key on, take a piece of wire and ground the orange wire at the buss bar.
You should hear the buzzer.
I like skidads idea about the hair dryer.

​The buzzers can go bad just setting.
You can replace with any car or motor cycle horn.
​It CAN be wired backward so be carful.

​The thermo sending unit can be tested but usually doesn't go bad.
