So I picked up a 69 Chrysler 55hp on an impulse buy. Motor is not locked up and had a title. I've never owned a Chrysler before and I have to admit, I'm actually a little excited. It is a long shaft motor and has an extension bolted on. I'd like to make it a short shaft to fit my 1958 Texas Maid. Can anyone give me some years that share the same parts as this 69? I did read that 35-55hp were similar, but I didn't see a year span. It might be just easier for me to find a few parts motors, since titled motors (required by Oklahoma) are getting hard to come by. I appreciate all the help.

35, 45, 50Hp with starting from 1965 (when Chrysler bought West Bend) and 55Hp which came 1968 and up to 1975 for the 35Hp and 1976 for the 55Hp are similar and most parts will fit.
Your 55Hp finished in 1976.

1976 came a 35Hp which was from the 25, 30Hp family and this was a complete different engine.
1974 came a 60Hp twin carb engine which was produced as 55, 60 and 65Hp during several years and this was also a complete different engine.

The 45Hp was produced from 1965 up to the end of Chrysler OB in 1984 and this engine is very similar to your 1969 55Hp.
It is only the bore and stroke that are different to the 55Hp.

Hope this will give you some advice.

YES! The motor is currently missing a starter and bracket. I assume the LU drive shaft will be the same from all 35-55 hp in the years you mentioned? I really appreciate the help. Seems like there are quite a few of these motors being sold cheap for parts.

No Title

The long lower unit and single carb is what make it compatible with 35 and 45hp per my notes off this site. All external engine parts vs bore and stroke.
I have seen transom adaptor info here to help adjust the long lower unit. It might have been some info about removing the long L/u Extension. That I felt Nortin w/h mentioned. Search both here.

I have a 1970 35HP I purchased in1984 that has been a dream. My 35hp is attached and d/n charge.

Converting from long to short or vise versa you need to change driveshaft to long/short, put in an extension watertube/remove the extention and change the shiftshaft to long/short one.

The drivshaft is just to put in/remove after the waterimpeller housing is removed.
There is no nut at the end of the shaft holdning the piniongear in place. It is just floating on the forward and revers gear at the shaftspline.
