Hi I just came by this post. I am having a similar issue with my shifter. Mine is the type where the whole handle pulls out. When i go to push forward on trottle it stops at about 10 o clock. Its like it is jammed and wont go any further. I don't know where to start. Ideas?

jparm13 Your new thread. Please read the Help Tip on top of the page. A lot of info about posting in an old thread.

might sound simple but (with engine turned off) move it to where it stops lightly and then go and spin the prop... it might just be 1/2 way between gears. you can also try going into reverse all the way and then try going forward. Mine will do that sometimes if I have the engine tilted up.

it could also be a worn out shift rod seal - i replaced one of those last year - cheap fix.

IF??? anyone try's to shift when not running??
You need to spin the prop at the same time.
You can jam the linkage and cause damage.

I guess I need to re-read the post before I post.
pnwboat is probably right.
The shifter when in fast idle won't let you over rev.
If it's not revving up?? you need to do a linc and sinc. (in the top posts)
