Hi Guys, i have the opportunity to pickup a Force 150 for 300 bucks. I looked at it today and it's in very good condition. The 5th cylinder has low or no compression. The guy who owns it had it scoped and the piston is fine and is guessing the rings are stuck or broken. My guess is b/c it sat for 4 years the rings got stuck to the cylinder wall and cracked the 1st time he fired it over.

anyhow, how hard is it to fix this ? the 5th cylinder is pretty low so would I have to take the power head off to work on it or can i change the rings with it on the leg ?

You could do the change in frame.
But as it's the bottom cyl??
It would be VERY difficult.
Your theory of the breaking ring? I wouldn't count on that.

More than likely the carb might not have been set right?
Or the recirc system clogged on the lower piston.

Things like wrong prop and continued slow operation can affect it also.

Pull the head and check the damage.
Is it a 25"

yes it's the bottom cylinder - yes he does have the wrong prop on it - it's a 13x21 stainless. It's an 18' bayliner cobra and really should have a 17p or 19 at the most.

it's a 20" shaft

i had also just thought of buying it for all the parts.

No the 150 on an 18 cobra probably needs the 21.
If I remember when I was rigging the new Cobras.
We all thought it was cool seeing a 21 on a Bayliner.
Like you said MOST see a 17 or 19.

Now if it had a 25 or down to a 15 it could affect the motor.

Right now I'm rebuilding a 1988 18" Cobra Bass boat.
It came with a 125.
Guy bought it and the seller threw on a 15p.
It should have a 19 maybe a 17.
