87 50hp force powerhead swap interchange

Looking for a good powerhead for my 507f7c I see some newer 50hp force powerheads on ebay looks like they added a plate in 1988 and newer where my 87 doesn't have it but id like to if a know if a newer powerhead would work on my leg with out the plate thanks in advance for your knowledge

Seems there is a difference.
​The head is different, the head gasket too.

The 50 is one of the cheaper motors around.
Maybe look for a complete one and do a compression test.
The extra parts will sell and you can almost get the parts you need for free.
