I'm getting my spare lower unit ready to sell and I gave the best housing i had away to someone. This is the next best one I have - do you think it's usuable ? There was some light pitting. Mostly concerned about the areas at the bottom of the pump between the 2 sections. I sanded it up the best I could.

WOW that does look bad. I replaced my water impeller housing and it looked tons better then that. JMHO

Seems like that housing would eat up an impeller quickly from the rough pitted areas. If you could hone them out and even the base area smoothed and polished, then it would work. But I wouldn't want to use that one in that condition. The better the areas are polished, the better the pump works. Any rough areas will certainly grind the rubber impeller away in no time.

No Title

Nothin wrong with that body.
Way better shape than the ones I have in my drives.
If you decide to buy new?? send me that one, I'll use it.

See the pics, that was a working pump and good impeller.
It wasn't overheating, just yearly maint.
I cleaned the housing and put in a new impeller.
This is from a customers boat.

Was your motor overheating?
Just put in a new impeller, grease it and reinstall.

The housings can last a REALLLLY long time.
The seal on the top is usually the thing that goes bad.

jerry's housing is called "job security" --- nothing wrong with the housing, but from a personal stand point, I would clean it up the best I could, try to remove all off the mess inside.

The one in the pic looked like SkiDads when I was done.

Now if your using a REALLLLY pitted housing??
You can fill in the pits with Marine Tex.
And use a sanding wheel to smooth it down.
