Hi. New here and new to my Chrysler 7.5HP 1980 model 72h0c engine.

I want to take a look at the pump impeller, as the tell-tale is not producing much water. I tried to remove the lower leg, but saw no way to release the shaft to pull it all the way off.

Can someone please let me know which part number in the linked diagram should I be removing to get to the impeller. Also, if there is a hex nut or something to release the lower leg or gear housing, where should I see it.

DIAGRAM fom the manual on Boats dot net is linked below

MANY thanks for friendly advice.

Might not show it?
#1There could be a cover on center of the mid section.
It has a coupler under it.
Remove the 2 screws on the cover and undo the bottom screw on the coupler.
#2 Shift into R(maybe forward)
Drop the lower unit.
It should expose a coupler.
Undo the bottom one.

Get photo bucket and add some pics of the lower and mid section(both sides)

Thanks. Will try again and try to get photos.

I spoke with someone yesterday who ended up breaking the shift rod trying to force the extension leg off. He later found that the hex screw hides up inside the the lower leg. (#2, in the drawing, I think). His motor may now be a spare that I can harvest parts from.

Note on parts for this motor: They can be expensive. The impeller price from Mercury has been jacked up to about $130. That is not a typo, but it definitely is insane.

The parts can be found on E-bay and a bunch of other places.
Quicksilver 47-F525065-1 Try that # on e-bay.
A bunch show up. The last # can change and mean nothing.

Got the impeller in. No-one had the part for under $100, even on ebay. It's a crime. Motor spews water like it should now. Thanks for the helpful comments. Now, I am on to figure out a fuel problem.
