Just for clarification....when you manually turn the motor over and look into the spark plug hole so that the top cylinder #1piston is positioned at TDC (Top Dead Center), the Zero degree mark on the flywheel should line up with the timing mark on the tab attached to the block. If it is not at Zero, then the flywheel has shifted. Most likely due to a sheared flywheel key.
