Hi mates noticed a major leak around the prop on my 94 120hp force and I'm wondering if this is a doable DYI job? Just successfully completed my own full rebuild so not totally useless but this like a tricky procedure as there doesn't seem to be any bolts holding the bearing carrier in so not sure how to get that out also what seal kit do I need and where to get it? Any help here would be great;)
Regards

Depending on the lower unit??
There could be a BIG nut with a lot of teeth holding it in place(mercury) or 4 bolts inside on the carrier holding it in place.
Get a parts diagram (boatsdotnet) and figure out which one you have.

FIRST!!!! is there any water in the oil?
Yes?
Then drain and do a pressure test.
NO?? then it could be unburned fuel/oil.

The oil you see, if it is gear oil could be coming from under the impeller.
That's why a pressure test is important.

Thanks Jerry,
Yes oil looks like milk, prop seals are fine on visual looks like the main o ring next to reverse gear has failed doesn't appear to be any oil coming from impeller area but will test anyway. Has the large toothed nut holding the carrier in like the mercurys.

You'll need a special wrench to remove the nut.
Unless you cut it out(NOT RECOMENDED)
The big o-ring doesn't usually leak but nothing is normal with outboards.
Do a pressure test and let us know.
