91 Force 90HP water pump housing

I am replacing the water pump housing and impeller metal cup. there is a recess space at top of cup inside of housing. does a seal go between the cup and housing inside the water pump housing?

every youtube video I look at no one removes the metal cup from the housing to show the recess in the housing. there is a seal or o ring on the parts breakdown but it shows that it goes on top of water pump housing. Well that would still leave a space inside the housing the doesn't look right.

Do you have a picture of said piece?I just replaced mine.I can't remember off hand. There is a gasket but I don't think it's the one you're talking about.

Nothing in there.
​The seal goes on top of the housing.
Nothing but a thick rubber washer.
