Recently purchased a 1989 Bayliner with a Force 85. It started overheating and the alarm went off. So I took off the lower half of the motor and I am currently swapping out the impellar, it was in really rough shape. The new impellar I bought seems to be fitting, how do I say, REALLY tight. Did the shop sell me the wrong impellar? Or do new impellar's fit pretty tight into the housing usually? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated!

They used 2 different impellers on the 89
Depending on your pumps housing.
The older one has no stainless insert, it uses F523065-1
The newer is F694065
What part # and type of pump housing do you have??
Like I said the old style has no stainless insert and the new does.

Second or third post in this forum has directions.

As jerry stat there were two typ of impellerhousings and impellers. Check which one you have.

I do not know how mecanic incliened of OB you are but the impeller should fit snug/tight.
The vanes should be bent in the housing as the impeller works with the vanes flexing in and out to pump water.
It is therefor mounted exentric in the housing to create the flexing.
It is also important that it has the right height to seal proper in the housing.
