I'm about to put my 140hp powerhead back on the mid leg. Do I need to buy a base gasket or can I just rtv it? What about the rubber piece for the water pickup tube?

Get the gasket and use sillycone.
The rubber seal it can have 2 screws holding it in place.
The chances of removing them and replacing the screws isn't very good?????
If they won't come out, I build up a ring of silicone on the rubber.
Won't take much maybe an 1/8th to 3/16 of an inch thick.

Any idea where I can buy one? I checked crowley marine and when you click the link it just goes to blue silicone and says the gasket isn't available

If it's like the later model Force engines, I've never seen a gasket between the adapter plate (which is bolted to the bottom of the power head) and the mid leg on any of the power heads that I've pulled off. Just RTV silicone. I could be wrong but I've never seen a gasket there. There is a gasket between the adapter plate and the power head, but I've never seen a gasket between the adapter plate and mid leg. I use high temp RTV silicone to seal it when dropping the power head back on to the mid leg.

Well, did another check in the garage. Looks like my motor just had blue rtv. The parts motor I got my good new midleg from had a gasket. Maybe I would have remembered these details if I didn't start this project months ago! Guess I'll just rtv it since I don't have a gasket and I want to get this thing together. Thanks for the input!

The RTV" can" get hot and squeezed out and exhaust can leak into the cowl.
The gasket really help this from happening.
Maybe, possibly,?
I replaced a gasket on a 85 used rtv and the gasket and it still leaks. Maybe, possibly??? :)

I've definitely had mixed results with rtv in the past in my various projects. I haven't had much luck finding a gasket though. Any idea who might sell them?

Let us know.
Mine I just smeared RTV over the leak and it stopped the leak.
The water from the leak isn't the problem, the exhaust gasses cause the motor to choke out.
