long shaft 2 piece lower unit on a short shaft motor ?

A long shaft 2 piece drive shaft lower unit will fit on a short shaft motor right , all i have to do is use my drive shaft correct ? i have a 1990 force 150 20 inch shaft motor with a bad lower unit , i have someone that is going to sell me a lower unit but its from a long shaft motor, both lower units have the 2 piece drive shaft, i should just be able to put the short drive shaft on the lower unit right ?
