What does the yellow wire do that comes from within the alternator? it does not have a post and nut ,
but comes from behind the little raised grill thing, on my previous Volvo engine this wire had been extended/taken up to the dash and connected to the back of the fuel gauge?

as i have refitted the engine and the fuel gauge already works i don't know what to do with the yellow wire? thanks.

What engine? Be specific. A picture of the wire would also help.

Trust me, fuel gauge wiring does not come from the alternator, no matter what color it is.

Re: Valeo alternator, yellow wire?

Just leave it hooked up to the alternator terminal as shown in the picture. Then you know it's seeing what the alternator output terminal is seeing.
