Thornycroft T150 diesel engine runs for a while then sputters and dies

We have a problem with our Thornycroft T150 diesel engine. After running the engine (engaged at 2K RPM) without problem for a period of time (could be up to an hour or more), suddenly the revs drop drastically and the engine begins to sputter. Sometimes playing with the throttle we can slowly bring the revs back up, but often the engine will just die. We?ve checked just about everything we know: cleaned the fuel separator, replaced the fuel filter, disassembled and reassembled the fuel pump ? but no change. We've also tried attaching a jerrycan directly to the fuel pump (bypassing separator and filter), and the same occurs. Seems fuel is not reaching the injectors. Could it be that the fuel pump fails intermittently when under load?

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Hi David,What do you have to do to get the engine running again?

Not knowing what you need to do to get it going, I would be taking a stab in the dark- looking at 2 things air getting into the system at some point or the fuel injector pump is old and when it warms up and internal parts expand the tolerances are not there to make enough PSI to crack the injectors.

Howdy

Sounds like it's not getting fuel. Tried looking up specs at boatdiesel and they have nothing on the motor, will keep looking. I'm not familiar with this model but all diesels use the same modes. Mentioned using a jerrycan to supply

Does the engine use a fuel return line from the pump?
Also figuring it has a lift pump and a high pressure injection pump?

On some motors they have a small screen under the banjo bolt going to the pump. Happens a lot with heavy equipment, crud collects on the screen and will slow and kill the motor. The fix is remove the bolt clean and away you go till the next time
