I am in the midst of replacing the bearing in a Volvo bellhousing. It is the single bearing model, which had the seal removed before I got my hands on it. Once the shaft and bearing are replaced, there is a nylon bushing that is about an inch wide and 1/8 of an inch thick that installs on top of the bearing, then the shaft seal is installed on top of that. My question is, do you need to fill the cavity between the bearing and seal with bearing grease? (I don't see why, as the bearing is a sealed unit) Also, the cup side of the seal is out, correct?
