Steering shaft size?

Hello, I am installing a steering setup on my boat, one I picked up from someone esle. Not paying attention till later when I installed the steering wheel that there is no nut to screw down on the shaft to lock wheel on. Have hit hardware stores an have not found one to fit. No name on it,is not the small shaft. Is there a standard for these? Is it metric, standard? Have a tellflex that's a smaller shaft. This on is bigger. Thanks for any info.

Nope,... No standards, it could be 'bout anything,....

That's why the Best practice is to replace the helm, 'n cable as a Kit,.....
