Throttle cable not springing back

703 Yamaha control side mount. 1990 Yamaha 150 2 stroke. After rebuilding the 3 carbs the motor cranks right up but the throttle won't come down unless I push the cable back at the motor end. Cables are fresh and control box looks pretty good inside and seems to be working properly. There is an arm that engages the cam for the throttle on the carbs. Is this arm suppose to spring back because when I push it back the rpms back down to normal idle? Thanks in advance!

:welcome: to iboats

No Yam expert but all carbs I've seen need a return spring on the throttle plates. I don't see one on yours, is it on the back side?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Lengthen the throttle cable slightly, so it pushes against the idle stop,.....

Okay, Bondo I will give it a shot and lengthen the cable and see what happens. I will post afterwards. Thank you!

Hi, ALLDodge, I do know what you're talking about on a traditional carb setup. These carbs actually have the short tension springs on the linkage arms connected to the carbs. those are working just fine. My problem is the cable not being forced to return after I bring the throttle back to neutral. Bondo suggests lengthening the cable a bit so I'm going to try that. I will post afterwards. Thank you!

Well what-a-ya know! Bondo you're the man! Sometimes you can just look at something so long and the obvious just doesn't click! As soon as you said that I went out and lengthened the cable ends at both the control box and also a little at the motor linkage and it was just enough! Perfect! Thank you Mr. Bondo!
