Steering cable help

Wait & see I guess, perhaps that gizmo on the sheath is indeed a coupling nut. It looks undone (or cross threaded) so the shaft should just pull out unless it's stuck.

Ok the gizmo with the hoseclamps is a mickey mouse job to mount the bracket
Got the tube off today and it slides right into my tilt tube and screws right on
So i would say the same unit will mount either way
Now i just hope the cable is long enough to mount it this way
Also where can i buy the rubbers for the big hole in the splashwell for the cable to go through
