Rack steering cable

I installed a new rack and pinion steering cable to replace the broken one,and it seems the helm gear jams when installed. The gear seems to go into the rack too far. Is there a possible remedy or do I replace the helm gear.
I am sure everything is put back properly?

from what i learned repacing mine with seastar double cable

rack kit the instructions stated that new cables do not fit old helm station (wormgear) so have to be changed as a kit. maybe thats your case.

Ayuh,.... Which is the reason the helm, 'n cable should be replaced as a set,....
