I have a 1984 Galaxy 199 I/O Cuddy with a mercruiser pre Alpha. The steering wheel is about a good quarter turn from being straight. The wife has a hard time when doing low speed maneuvers because she thinks the steering is straight. Is it possible to pull the wheel off, straighten out the motor, and put the wheel in the straight position?

wheel should be on a keyed shaft, you would have to pull the steering cable and re-index it.

If you want easy get a 5 spoke steering wheel & forget about it.

Easier yet, set it straight and paint a red line at the top of the wheel.

Or, don't let the wife drive it.

Or show her how to drive. If the wheel has been turned 360 degrees, where is the outdrive pointing?

8 or 9 spokes are even better.

Skipper Sean... Even if the wheel was straight at one engine trim setting, it will change as rpm and/or drive angle changes. On a Duo Prop or Bravo 3 it might not happen

Gave her a training session today and used yellow tape to mark center it seemed to work. We may get next weekend to run the boat and then it's time to winterize and re do the interior.
