  • How to measure Steering cable

I have a rack and pinion steering. To replace the cable ,Do I measure the old one complete from end of rack and pinion to end of steering rod or just the length of cable,as I have it out of boat. Thanks for help in advance.P.S. The old cable measures 12ft.from rack to approach on steering rod.

I went to this page :

    http://www.iboats.com/SeaStar-SSC-12...-view_id.40274

At the bottom of the description section it has this:

For rack steering cable replacement, measure existing cable as follows: Measure plastic cable jacket in inches, add 30", and round up to the next foot. Order that length cable.

I hope that helps, good luck with it.

When I replaced one a few years ago, the cable length was stamped on the end of the sheath. I just ordered the same one.
