I just bought this boat and everything seems to work fine. I notice a couple of things while out of the water. If I turn the steering wheel left and right with engine off, there is a knock noise coming from the mechanism behind the steering wheel.

Do these systems gain slop or loosen up over time? Is there bearing to be replaced or things I can do to tighten the slop up?

The transom also squeals when turning with the motor off. Like something is dried out or needs some attention. Is this normal?

Any one have any experience with these hydraulic rack steering systems?

I feel like sometimes it is hard to turn if performing small corrections, but large corrections it assists very well. It tracks straight and all else seems fine, but I do notice that it almost feels like the steering helm is kind of bumpy when turning, almost like the helm is getting close to skipping worn worm gears on the cable.

Any help appreciated, I have no experience troubleshooting or replacing these systems. Thanks!
