Hello

Recently I got a boat for peanuts but it had no manual.

I tried to start it, but after cranking for a while I started to smell gas and had no response from the stubborn engine. Then I saw a switch under the key switch on the yamaha 703 control box and above the safety switch. I held it and turned the engine over, and it started easily with just a touch. later when it was warm I did not need to hold it to start the engine. something clicks inside the engine when I push it. The engine doesnt have a choke. what does that switch do? I am afriad to overuse it!

Welcome aboard.

The switch is either for an electric choke or primer. 50 ELF isn't enough to say exactly.

In either case, the switch is used for cold starting and primer or choke both richen the fuel mix to assist cold starting.

It has no choke, so do I have to pump the switch up and down to prime? 50elf is the model of the engine
