OMC 400 wont shift into forward

replaced the impeller on my outdrive, put it back together and everything was good. went out fishing with some friends and when we went to leave, it wouldnt shift into forward. reverse works fine.

i can shift it into forward manually by pulling the cable.

any ideas?

1978 OMC 400, 140 OMC Engine

Probably needs the lower shift cable, but could try adjusting first

your off a tooth on the segment that shifts the lower or you didnt re-set the lower shift cable
